Plague in Venice

Although Venetians put a lot of spiritual energy into venerating Saint Roch, plague still struck Venice in the 1570s. Titian died in this plague, and the city lost many other cultural bulwarks. Afterwards, the city started celebrating the Feast of the Redeemer, clcearly changed by this experience.
