Self-Portraits

Sometimes artists make portraits of themselves.  This kind of portrait is called a self-portrait.   This self-portrait was painted by the French artist Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun in 1782.  In self-portraits, many artists show themselves with their art supplies.  Vigée Le Brun is holding paintbrushes and a palette with paints on it.  Because of this, we could easily tell that she was a painter even if we knew nothing else about her.
